Slow Food Nation debuts its first ever large scale US food event in San Francisco in just a few weeks. The food gathering/celebration will bring together thousands of farmers, artisans, educators and consumers to a be-in of epic proportions, all centered around food.
The event is organized into several areas: Taste will be held at Ft. Mason in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge. Taste will be divided in to subject matter pavillions including beer, bread, charcuterie and cheese (see below). Marketplace will be held at the downtown Civic Center Plaza and is designed as a large scale farmer's market and demonstration garden where visitors can purchase artisan made goods from across the country. Organizers expect upwards of 60,000 people to attend some or all of the various events taking place over the course of the four day extravaganza.
In the midst of all of this, SFN will include a prominent cheese focus. In the Cheese Pavillion (held in the Taste portion at Ft. Mason), organizers will highlight the Ecology of Cheese. Presenters will expound on all aspects of cheese, cheesemaking, animal management and all of the multitudes of considerations that go into making great cheese. Attendees will also be able to taste great artisan cheese from all over the United States, including Oregon and Washington. This is an exceptional opportunity to taste, learn and get involved.
