Many readers come to this site searching for resources for making cheese at home - products, books, equipment and the like. As a result, I thought it would be worthwhile to create a comprehensive list of where you can find cultures, enzymes, rennet, cheese presses and recipes.
Please note that this is not intended to be an endorsement of anything listed here. If you have experience with any of these books or products, good or bad, feel free to add a comment in the comment section at the bottom of the page.
-Cheesemaking Books and How-to Resources-
Home Cheese Making: Recipes for 75 Delicious Cheeses by Ricki Carroll
This is one of the most popular and often used reference guides to home cheesemaking. Many, many professional cheesemakers will tell you that they started out with one of Ricki Carroll's books.
Home Cheesemaking with Margaret Morris
Margaret Morris is the cheese genius behind Glengarry Cheesemaking Supply. She's put together a DVD as well as a cheesemaking manual to guide you through the process.

Additional Online Resources
David Fankhauser is a Biology professor at the University of Cincinnati. His website is full of useful information, including recipes for a whole variety of cheese styles and helpful step by step photos of the make process.
See the dairy page for resources and recipes (note: devoted exclusively to goat's milk products).
*** Here's a link to an article in Mother Earth News that describes how to make your own cheese press. Other helpful info on cheese presses can be found here and here.
-Cheesemaking Products-
I doubt you will find a self-sustaining shop anywhere specializing solely in cheesemaking supplies. Occasionally, a homebrewing supply shop will carry cheese related items (or may be able to get some for you) but outside of that possibility, your best bet is to order from online sources.
New England Cheesemaking Supply
A full service online store for the home cheesemaker. New England carries a whole host of supplies, cultures, cheesecloth and the like as well as books and videos to help you through the process. Also offers classes and advice.
Glengarry Cheesemaking and Dairy Supply
Another fantastic resource for cheesemakers both home and professional. Carries a wide variety of products as well as kits, instruction manuals and video how-tos. Also provides classes and consulting for professionals.
Leener's sells a whole variety of products including yeast for beermaking and make it yourself root beer kits, but also carries cheesemaking supplies as well. Check out their cheesemaking page for cultures, molds and presses.
Lehman's
Lehman's sells products designed for the Amish and others who operate without electricity. See their cheesemaking resources here.
Steve Shapson, owner of a Wisconsin home brew supply shop, was turned on to cheesemaking when an enthusiast asked him about cheesemaking supplies. He's turned his enthusiasm for cheese into a website supported business devoted to supplies and advice.
Danlac , Fromagex & Dairy Connection
Where professionals get their stuff. Danlac sells recipes for $5. Fromagex is a multi-national company based in France and is where many French cheesemakers get their cultures. Dairy Connection offers a full line of products and manuals for the hobbyist.

suggest you order from Glengarry (see the text), which is in Ontario. You're probably not going to find a shop that sells rennet - but let me know if you do.
